HONOLULU—Moanalua vaulted into the rankings, while Radford won … and dropped out.

The Moanalua Menehune, with a 59-56 win over Kaimuki Saturday, emerged at No. 7 in the HondaReport.com Boys’ Basketball Top Ten Tuesday. Kaimuki, which was No. 5 going into the game, slipped to No. 9.

Something had to give. Radford, which routed Wai’anae 61-45 Friday, dropped from ninth to 11th—for no good reason at all. Logically, it appears the media and coaches now believe Moanalua is better than Radford, all based on the Menehune win over Kaimuki.

Time will tell if the voters have any lasting respect for the Rams, who finished second in the James Alegre Invitational three weeks ago to Kamehameha. Radford lost on a last-second shot by Kawika Hepa; Kamehameha is tied for No. 2 in this week’s poll.

Iolani (14-2), the two-time Hawaii state champion, collected all 16 first-place votes to remain No. 1. The Raiders open Interscholastic League of Honolulu play at Saint Louis tonight.

Kamehameha (9-2) shares the No. 2 spot with Kalaheo (11-4, 1-0 league), the defending champion of the O’ahu Interscholastic Association.

Punahou bumped from No. 2 to the fourth spot this week. The Buff n’ Blue finished third in their Holiday Classic last Tuesday.

Leilehua, Mililani, Moanalua, Maui, Kaimuki and Saint Louis round out the HRC Top Ten.
