HONOLULU—Late-arriving fans salivated at the prospect of a classic duel between top-ranked Iolani and No. 2 Kamehameha Friday night.

It didn’t quite happen. Iolani continued to show its diversity—strength in flexibility—by pummeling the host Warriors 60-38 before a polite gathering of about 650 at Kekuhaupi’o Gymnasium.

The win boosted Iolani (16-2 overall) to 2-0 in the rough and tumble Interscholastic League of Honolulu—rough for Raider foes more than the Raiders. Kamehameha (10-3, 1-1 league) showed areas of improvement, particularly with turnovers. The Warriors committed 24 turnovers in a loss to Iolani at the Punahou Holiday Classic, but took better care of the ball this time and limited two-time state Player of the Year Derrick Low to four points.
