HONOLULU—One game can make a difference.
Kahuku, which rallied from a 15-point deficit to beat McKinley 76-66 Friday, vaulted into the No. 7 spot of the HondaReport.com Boys’ Basketball Top Ten today.
The Red Raiders will get their chance to prove their status soon enough. Kahuku visits No. 10 Moanalua Wednesday night.
Also leaping into the Top Ten is Kealakehe, which is 5-0 in Big Island Interscholastic Federation play. The Waveriders swept three BIIF opponents last week, including Honoka’a and Saint Joseph.
Iolani garnered all 24 first-place ballots to remain No. 1. The Raiders (17-2, 3-0 Interscholastic League of Honolulu) toppled Saint Louis, Kamehameha-O’ahu and Damien as league play opened.
Punahou, on the strength of a 52-48 overtime win over Kamehameha-O’ahu, leap-frogged two spots to the No. 2 slot. The Buff n’ Blue are also 3-0 in ILH play (16-3 overall).
Kalaheo, with wins over O’ahu Interscholastic Association East contenders Kailua and Moanalua, is No. 3 this week, dropping one position.
Kamehameha-O’ahu is at No 4 despite losses to Iolani and Punahou.
Leilehua remained at No. 5 and Mililani stayed at No. 6. The perennial powers—and archrivals—in the OIA West are both 2-0 and will battle tonight at Leilehua’s gym.
Rounding out the HRC Top Ten are Kahuku, Maui, Kealakehe and Moanalua.
