HONOLULU—The East Division can be brutal.
Everyone seems to have beaten everyone else, all due respect to the division's newest school.
That's why the Kalaheo Mustangs can afford to take a day off, as mandated by coach Chico Furtado. The Mustangs finished regular-season play with a 75-49 win at McKinley Saturday night.
Kalaheo (10-1) and ranked No. 4 in the HondaReport.com Boys' Basketball Top Ten, gets a first-round bye for winning the O'ahu Interscholastic Association East.
Letdowns and upsets have become part of playoff lore in recent years. Perhaps too often, the best regular-season teams have faltered for 32 minutes, losing their otherwise well-earned opportunity to play in the state tournament.
The Mustangs, however, do not appear to be a team due for a letdown. If anything, they seem to be peaking.
