HONOLULU—Consider the Cougars of Kaiser as independent cats who know their way in and out of the Top Ten house of fickle hosts.
Kaiser, with a sweep of two playoff contenders, vaulted back into the HondaReport.com Girls’ Basketball Top Ten Sunday night. The Cougars, with a 47-40 win over Farrington, and a 53-37 victory over Moanalua, improved to 3-1 in the tough O’ahu Interscholastic Association East Division.
The Cougars returned to the Top Ten at No. 7, one point ahead of another OIA East power, McKinley.
At the top, Konawaena garnered eight of 13 first-place ballots from media and coaches to remain No. 1 for a third week in a row. The Wildcats (14-2, 4-0 Big Island Interscholastic Federation) pummeled Waiakea and Pahoa by lopsided margins.

Kahuku, the former top-ranked team, collected four first-place votes and remained No. 2. The Lady Raiders (15-1, 4-0 OIA East) downed Kailua and Kalani to remain in the East lead.
Defending state champion Punahou outlasted Mid-Pacific and Kamehameha-O’ahu to retain a share of the lead in the Interscholastic League of Honolulu. Punahou (12-2, 4-0 ILH) earned one first-place vote and is still ranked third.
Iolani, with wins over Maryknoll and Sacred Hearts, shares the ILH lead with Punahou and rose one spot to No. 4 in the Top Ten. The Raiders (4-0 ILH) are still riding momentum from a win over Kamehameha-O’ahu more than a week ago.
Kamehameha-O’ahu dropped one notch to No. 5 after a heartbreaking 37-33 loss to Punahou Saturday. The Warriors (10-4, 2-2 ILH) are followed by Kalaheo, which suffered its first loss in OIA East play.
The Lady Mustangs (15-2, 3-1 OIA East) lost at Moanalua, 41-39, Tuesday. They rebounded Friday in a 62-33 win over Kaimuki, but dropped two spots to No. 6.
Following Kaiser are McKinley (10-6, 2-1 OIA East) and Maryknoll (11-4, 2-2 ILH). Kamehameha-Big Island (9-5, 3-1 BIIF), which won two of three games last week, dropped two positions to No. 10. The Warriors, comprised of freshmen and sophomores, remained in the Top Ten despite a 44-40 homecourt loss to Kealakehe.
Roosevelt, which took its first OIA East loss Saturday, dropped out of the Top Ten. McKinley toppled the Rough Riders 64-43.
