HONOLULU—When the weekly HondaReport.com Girls’ Basketball Top Ten shakes down each Sunday night, there is usually a coupling of logic and absurdity.
In other words, never a dull moment when basketball minds congregate with ballots in hand. While Konawaena, Kahuku, Punahou and Iolani remained among the top four in this week’s Top Ten, there were the plights of Kamehameha-O’ahu and Kamehameha-Big Island.
Kamehameha-O’ahu, with a 48-44 loss to Sacred Hearts Saturday, slipped from No. 5 to seventh. Logic.

Kamehameha-Big Island, with a 64-33 win over Kohala and a 74-21 win at Laupahoehoe, dropped out. The Warriors were No. 10 last week, and missed this week’s Top Ten by a single point. Absurdity.
Or perhaps not. In probability, some voters submitted ballots last week without the news about KS-Big Island’s homecourt loss to Kealakehe. So, even with the two wins this week, the Warriors were unable to win enough votes from coaches and media to stay in the Top Ten.
Still, the ride has been exhilarating for a team of only sophomores and freshmen, and the playoffs—and a potential state tournament berth—are in the horizon.
With KS-Big Island out of the Top Ten, Baldwin leaped ahead. The Bears, 6-0 in Maui Interscholastic League play, went from 13th to No. 9.
Kalaheo and Kaiser quietly moved up the ranks one notch each. Kalaheo bumped up to No. 5, followed by Kaiser at No. 6.
