HONOLULU — The first year was a trial run of sorts.

The second year of the upstart HRCOFFL (HondaReport.com Ohana Fantasy Football League) is a full-fledged makeover.

"There are huge changes in the statistical breakdowns, and the addition of new owners is going to make this seem like a whole new league," league founder Paul Honda said. "The changes are for the best. We just felt like way too much emphasis was placed on touchdowns, but that's only because we went with the very basic Yahoo format."

League commissioner Danny Cup Choy is in charge of the tinkering. The setup is based on the same parameters from another league he has played in.

"All of these stat categories and point totals can be changed before the season starts...so feel free to give me input," he wrote to league owners in their online forum. "I'm just setting it up ... but it's HRC's league."

So far, two teams have registered: Imua2000 and the Ala Wai Foodlemeisters, who were the Ala Wai Barracudas last season. Imua2000 won the inaugural championship, while the Ala Wai franchise was acquired from former owner Honda by Egofolo Foodlemeister IV. Terms of the sale have not been disclosed, but owners have speculated that Foodlemeister paid well over market value for the struggling franchise.

Five owners have committed verbally. Foodlemeister, Cup Choy, Billy Hull and Kyle Galdeira are affiliated with the Honolulu Star-Bulletin. Foodlemeister delivered the newspaper 28 years ago and considers himself a historian of the publication.

"When I was one small kid, da PCL standings in da papah was in huge 12-point font, not small print, but like regular typewriter letters," Foodlemeister said. "Every day, follow da Hawaii Islanders. Day before yesterday, 33 wins, 44 losses, percentage .429. Yesterday, beat da Sacramenton Solons, 34 wins, 44 losses, percentage all da way up to .434. Used to kill me that they only can win one game at a time. Frickin' Albuquerque Dukes was always in first place, 18, 22, 300 games ahead. Yup, old stadium was da bes'. Eh, bruddah, you sitting on my glasses, gahfunnit."

Hull is a part-time clerk. Hull, Cup Choy and Galdeira are stringers, or part-time writers.

Kalani Takase, a clerk with the Honolulu Advertiser, is also in the league. Interest from a few of last year's owners, such as Parkpill, has begun to pique.

The HRCOFFL is a no-money league, meaning there is no wagering. The quest for a championship is strictly about love, obsession and addiction to the NFL. Last year's champ, Imua2000, is owned by Cup Choy. The league celebrated by sending him e-congratulations since he was a resident of California at the time.
