For my first story in The Newsletter, I have been asked to interview Grandpappy Foodlemeister, a.k.a. Tight Splurge.

He's my favorite grandpa. Sometimes he won't give us even one dollar for bottled water. "Stupid or what? Water is free, boy! Come on," he always tells us.

But when it's my birthday, he treats us at the best places. Chuck E. Cheese when I was a little kid. Dave and Buster's now. That's why he's the "Tight Splurge."

What was your goal coming into the draft? Did you have a gameplan before you saw the draft pick order?

My goal was to draft smart, not like the Happy League draft, which I did terribly at.

Once you saw the order, did your strategy change?

The Foodlemeisters drew the seventh pick, so we were right in the middle. Good place to be. I like being in the middle better than at the beginning or end. Gives you more time to think between picks.

How do you feel about the way your draft started and the way it finished? What grade would you give yourself?

I liked our aggressiveness in pursuing point-makers. Edge. Holt. Moss. Not sure about Galloway, but Warner in the fifth round was a gift. After that, we were mediocre with L.J. Smith, Broooks, Chris Brown. I think we finished strong with Jenkins, Stover, San Diego 'D' and Arnaz Battle, but the middle rounds hurt us. I give us a C+ grade.

Is there anybody on your roster you regret selecting? Is there anybody you regret not drafting?

Regret? How's about everybody we took in the middle rounds. Could have done much better, but again, this is a 14-team draft, so it thinned out rather quickly.

How active do you predict you'll be with trading and free agents? Is there a specific position that you're looking to upgrade?

The draft is 80 percent of your success, so the key is to just avoid busts and stupid errors. Like picking the guy with the right last name on your list, but the wrong first name. Anyway, after the draft is key, also. Free agent list is like shopping at garage sales for treasures. I hate garage sales, though. You have to wake up early.

Looking at the rosters, who do you believe is the league favorite?

Hard to say. It's a quality league top to bottom, plenty of veteran owners. I have my work cut out for me. Was easier in the food wholesale business.

What would you like to say to the rest of the team owners?

Best wishes to all of you, take care of yourselves. Health is priceless, yet taking care of oneself is free. So is this league. Haha. That's a joke, boy, relax little bit.
