They're unbeaten, but one will bite the dust by the end of this weekend.
SportsHawaii.com (2-0) and the Ala Wai ToxiCudas (2-0) pair up two of the three remaining undefeated teams — BimBimBop is the other one — in the Pupule League. The matchup includes a battle between brothers Eli Manning (SportsHawaii.com) and Peyton Manning (ToxiCudas).
"Based on both teams' draft, I would have to give an advantage to the Ala Wai ToxiCudas, mainly due to the incredible foresight of owner Egolofo Foodlemeister IV to draft running back Frank Gore in the 11th round," SportsHawaii.com owner Scott Komatsu said. "(Gore) turned out to be a stud in the form of a sleeper in 2006."
Gore has been a pleasant producer with 50 fantasy points in just two games. "That was pure luck. I noticed him in another league and decided that he's worth the risk," Foodlemeister said. "He has a history of injuries. Just crossing my fingers every week."
The ToxiCudas have pressing concerns at the other running back spot, where Ladell Betts remains the starter. "On my team, he's a backup, all the way. We just don't have any depth there. If Portis gets all the carries, we're screwed," Foodlemeister admitted. "Plus, Tony Gonzalez is taking the week off, so we're stuck with Marcedes Lewis (Jacksonville). Who knows if he'll play this weekend."
Komatsu thinks the difficulty of schedule gives his squad the edge. "If you look at this week's matchups, the ToxiCudas will face Jacksonville, Philadelphia, at Indianapolis, at Seattle and at Tampa Bay, who are all top fantasy defenses," he said. "Which usually mean turnovers, sacks and a low offensive output. In a league that penalizes you hard for negative actions, it could be the difference between a win and a loss."
SPH has one of the toughest intra-team conflicts going this weekend. SPH quarterback Eli Manning goes up against Seattle, which is the SPH's team defense. "Our best-case scenario," Fooldemeister said, "is for Eli to throw only five times while (Tiki) Barber and (Brandon) Jacobs run for three touchdowns each. Yeah. That would be cool."
Scott's prediction: SportsHawaii.com 115, ToxiCudas 98.
Foodlemeister's prediction: ToxiCudas 109, SportsHawaii.com 108.
