A lot of weight is on this weekend's games because seedings and playoff berths are at stake.
Other than that, a lot of fun for all, moreso fans than coaches.
Friday's games
Kalaheo (1-6, 0-5) vs. No. 10 McKinley (4-3, 3-2) (homecoming), Roosevelt Stadium — Tigers want a higher seed, while the Mustangs are out of the playoff picture. Will Kalaheo show pride and play at its best? I think so. McKinley 26, Kalaheo 14.
Moanalua (2-5, 1-4) at No. 3 Kahuku (5-2, 4-1) (homecoming) — Red Raiders will look to keep their starters rested, but the Menehune have a stubborn ground attack led by Jordan Monico. Maybe, just maybe, Na Menehune will be content with its playoff berth and prevent Monico from taking too many hits. I doubt it. Kahuku 52, Moanalua 22.
No. 7 Farrington (5-2, 4-1) at Castle (3-4, 3-2) (homecoming) — The Knights have emotion on their side in light of Patrick Kapahu's passing. The Govs, meanwhile, could have starting quarterback Elijah Filifili back from an injury to his index finger (passing hand). Govs have the edge in the trenches, but the Knights find ways (re: special teams) to come up big. It was just two months ago when they had Saint Louis on the ropes before losing 17-13. Loko for an upset special. Black Knights 28, Governors 22.
No. 5 Waianae (5-2, 5-0) at Kapolei (2-5, 2-3) — Seariders have the top seed sewn up, while the Hurricanes want to forget last week's 30-point home loss to Radford. Seariders have one of the best O-lines in the program's history. Waianae 44, Kapolei 27.
No. 9 Leilehua (5-2, 4-1) at Campbell (3-4, 1-4) (homecoming) — The Sabers have the head-to-head edge over Radford, which means that the Sabers would get the final playoff berth if both teams end up 2-4 or 1-5. However, if Radford wins and Campbell loses, the tiebreaker won't matter. Mules are back in form on both sides of the ball. Leilehua 41, Campbell 30.
Radford (2-5, 1-4) at Mililani (5-2, 3-2) (homecoming) — Tough task for the young Rams ... but they won't fold. Trojans are playing well again. Mililani 25, Radford 20.
Kalani (0-7, 0-6) at Kaiser (5-2, 5-1) — Cougars too strong in this rivalry between neighbors. Kaiser 44, Kalani 12.
Ka'u (0-6, 0-6) vs. Hilo (2-4, 2-5), Wong Stadium — Trojans have shown grit, but the Viks are still better. Hilo 42, Ka‘u 6.
Kohala (1-5, 1-5) at No. 8 Kealakehe (8-0, 6-0) — Waveriders simply too strong, too deep, too good for the rest of the BIIF this year. By a mile. Kealakehe 48, Kohala 6.
Waiakea (3-3, 3-4) at Kamehameha-Hawaii (4-2, 4-3) — Warriors versus Warriors. KS-Hawaii 43, Waiakea 34.
Kapaa (1-4, 0-3) vs. Kauai (5-0, 3-0), Vidinha Stadium — Red Raiders have psyched out the Warriors for years now. Kauai 51, Kapaa 14.
Kamehameha-Maui (2-4, 0-1) vs. No. 6 Baldwin (6-0, 1-0), War Memorial Stadium — The Bears are clicking. Baldwin 47, KS-Maui 9.
Saturday's games
Saint Louis (6-0, 3-0) vs. Punahou (5-1, 3-1), Aloha Stadium — There won't be another wild shootout this time. Both teams have too many defensive minds to allow another 38-35 game. The intensity, however, will be just as high. The development of Punahou's ground attack will make a difference. Buffanblu 24, Crusaders 20.
Damien (2-3-1, 1-1-1) at Iolani (3-2-1, 1-1-1) — Another anticipated shootout ... and another one is on the way. Last year's league finale was a 57-49 win for Iolani. Their first meeting this fall was a 34-all tie. Tomorrow? Iolani 43, Damien 40.
Pac-Five (2-4, 0-3) vs. No. 4 Kamehameha (5-2, 1-2), Aloha Stadium — Warriors continue their trek back into contention. Kamehameha 27, Pac-Five 9.
Waipahu (4-2-1, 4-1-1) vs. Anuenue (1-7, 1-6), Kailua High School field — Marauders close in on a playoff berth with a fierce hunger. Waipahu 32, Anuenue 13.
Nanakuli (2-4-1, 2-3-1) vs. Kaimuki (4-2-1, 3-2-1), Roosevelt High School field — Bulldogs can't afford another defeat or tie, but Nanakuli's defense is improving drastically. Kaimuki 26, Nanakuli 21.
Pearl City (5-1-1, 4-1-1) at Waialua (5-2, 4-2) — Ground attack versus aerial circus. Bulldogs need a win to stay alive in the OIA White playoff hunt. Waialua 25, Pearl City 22.
Honokaa (4-3, 4-2) at Keaau (4-3, 4-2) — Possibly the most even matchup of the weekend. Cougars defend their home turf ... just barely. Keaau 28, Honokaa 27.
Konawaena (4-3, 4-2) at Hawaii Prep (2-5, 2-4) — Wildcats best expect a fierce battle. Konawaena 32, Hawaii Prep 20.
Pac-Three (0-6, 0-1) at Lahainaluna (5-1, 1-0) (homecoming) — Lunas grind it out against the league's No. 3 rusher, Andrew Pacheco. Lahainaluna 45, Pac-3 20.
Maui (1-5, 0-1) at King Kekaulike (4-2, 1-0) (homecoming) — Na Alii top the Sabers again. King K 32, Maui 15.
