Pupule Pigskin Picks, Week 4, Sept. 7-8
Posted at 12:57 PM

This Pupule was a pedestrian 8-2-1 last week, missing on Moanalua at Kalaheo and Nanakuli at Kaiser.

Week 1: 13-1-1
Week 2 : 13-3-2
Week 3: 8-2-1
To date: 34-6-4 (.818) ... 80 percent is bottom-of-the-barrel picking when it comes to preps, so I'm barely doing decent. Two of my L's came from picking against Kalaheo. Oh, I'm a believer in the blue and orange now. Just not tomorrow against Kahuku.

OIA Red
Moanalua at Castle, Friday — Two hungry teams. Na Menehune quarterback Jordan Monico is shaking some rust off. Castle's speed is a major factor against the option. Knights play very proud at home. Pupule says: Knights 41, Na Menehune 21.

Leilehua at Mililani, Friday — Classic rivalry in Central Oahu. Mules quarterback Kaipo Kea showing marked improvement through the air, but the Trojans have a few more weapons right now. Pupule says: Trojans 32, Mules 22.

Kalaheo at Kahuku, Saturday — Red Raiders are winless, proud and hungry. Winning at Carleton Weimer field is a rarity for visiting teams. Pupule says: Red Raiders 33, Mustangs 6.

OIA White
Kaimuki at Kaiser, Friday — Cougars are young and rebuilding, but still dangerous. Bulldogs can't afford a letdown, but they did beat Kaiser twice last year. Pupule says: Bulldogs 27, Cougars 7.

Roosevelt at Waipahu, Friday — Roosevelt is on a roll with an 83-7 thrashing of two foes so far. Waipahu, however, is in a different zip code from those two beaten opponents. The Rough Riders might find a way to slow down Waipahu's option attack ... but I'm guessing they won't do it often enough. Pupule says: Marauders 36, Rough Riders 27.

Anuenue at Waialua, Saturday — Another opportunity for Na Koa, but it won't be easy on the road. Donovan Mata is a running back who plays quarterback. Will Anuenue still be able to chase him down in the fourth quarter? Pupule says: Bulldogs protect their home turf, 36-28.

Pearl City vs. Kalani, Saturday — Chargers have too much firepower. Antoin DeWalt could have a career night. Pupule says: Chargers jolt Falcons 36-6.

ILH
Pac-Five vs. Damien, Saturday — League opener for evenly-matched teams. The difference is gamebreaker Kama Bailey, who will face a fierce, experienced Wolfpack defense. Pupule says: Monarchs 25, Wolfpack 21.

MIL
St. Anthony at Kamehameha-Maui, Friday — Warriors are in rebuilding mode, while the Trojans are regrouping and rebuilding their identity as a one-school team (with a few exceptions). Close call. Pupule says: Trojans 27, Warriors 16.

KIF
Kapaa vs. Kauai, Saturday — Warriors are 2-1 against non-KIF teams, but the Red Raiders are going after their fifth KIF title in a row. Pupule says: Red Raiders 41, Warriors 20.

Nonconference
Vacaville Christian (Calif.) at Hilo, Friday — Viks are proud, but the visitors were 11-1 in the Sacramento Metro Athletic League last year and averaged 54 points per game. Pupule says: Falcons 33, Vikings 22.
