Trail Blazers have repeated history
Posted at 10:37 AM
Safe to say that every single one of us who sat there at the Iolani Classic two years ago knew without a doubt that high schooler Kevin Durant was the best amateur player in the nation. College, high school, anything outside the NBA, basically.
That's why it's sad on different levels that the Portland Trail Blazers have replicated their Sam Bowie debacle. Their decision to draft a nice, old-school, defensive-minded, zero-offense player like Greg Oden was mind-boggling and flat-out ridiculous to those of us who saw Durant play in the flesh.
Oden is old-school, a reliable rebounder and medicore scorer. A good fit in the 1970s, but the new NBA rewards uptempo, multi-skilled players ... like Kevin Durant.
Bill Simmons: Blazers don't deserve Bowie 2.0
Simmons nails it right on the head. Dog-fighting convictions aside, why didn't Portland do the right thing and draft the best talent available?
Fire the Blazers' GM, management, owner... shoot, just fire the team from the NBA already. As Charlie Brown once screamed, "GOOD GRIEF!"
