BIIF and Division II
Posted at 5:35 PM
A few years back, the Kauai Interscholastic Federation did the right thing and moved all of its athletic teams to Division II, fulfilling the wishes of then Waimea football coach Jon Kobayashi.
The decision has been a highly successful one. Now I think it's time for another major adjustment.
The Big Island Interscholastic Federation should be in Division II for football. I've said this before. Nothing has changed. Hilo, Keaau and Waiakea are mid-sized schools that are competitive but smaller in numbers. Kealakehe is a larger school, but no bigger than the OIA's D-II schools.
2007 vs. D-II teams out of conference
Hilo
L 41-0 Kauai
Keaau
L 35-6 @ Kauai
Waiakea
L 38-7 Waimea
L 48-0 @ Lahainaluna
These three Division I teams are a combined 0-4 against non-BIIF D-II teams. Outscored 162-13. This is not a anomaly. It's been going on for decades. Time to go D-II in football, BIIF.
