Summer swell on H-1
Posted at 7:04 AM
I can't figure it out. Traffic this week has been ... packed.
Monday's traffic on the H-1 (Lunalilo) Freeway was stuffed and slow.
Tuesday, an accident in Aiea slowed everything down going westbound.
Wednesday, slow again.
Only on Thursday did traffic go smooth and quick, which is what most of us expect in the summer.
Can anyone explain this? I'm just a driver who crosses town from Mo'ili'ili to Kapalama to Aliamanu on weekday afternoons. I also theorize that Thursday is the one day that more workers have off than any other weekday. Friday is the opposite -- that's the day most workers have to work. If my theory's true, it explains why we have "good" traffic on one day and mind-numbing, molasses-slow traffic on another day.
Gas prices at about six or seven stations I passed yesterday rose again, as much as 4 cents in a one-day span. Ranged from $4.21 to $4.25 per gallon, and those were the cheaper stations.
Could be worse. Gas was $4.45 in Kona/South Kohala while I was there two weeks ago.
