WHT takes another shot at Konawaena

I never imagined that West Hawaii Today would stoop this low, but...

Maybe it's because of the transitional nature of the paper. Maybe it's because turnover in the sports department is a given. Maybe they've just given up on retaining quality writers (though Brendan Shriane is quite an exception).

But for Daniel Brock to continue dissing Konawaena's rising football program is rather childish. So here's my open letter to you, Daniel.

Daniel, what is your problem? Why continue ripping Konawaena (or any school)? You've got a set of flat tires and a bashed windshield ahead of yourself at this rate. They did it to Joe Mattos, who actually helped kids in his decades of coaching. They'd certainly do it to some ignorant fool who makes it a point to bash any high school. If you doubt this, go ask some of your senior writers on the WHT staff.

In case you haven't heard, nonconference results have a huge bearing on state-tournament seedings in all team sports. You can verify this with Keith Amemiya. Check with Konawaena girls basketball coach Bobbie Awa. Or Punahou coach Mike Taylor. They usually meet in tournaments before the regular season and they play all-out to win because they tell me the HHSAA bases seeding for states on ALL results. Konawaena's win over Kealakehe does matter. Just talk to people.

Then again, picking up the phone to actually talk to people isn't your thing, from what I've seen.

Maybe if you spent more time learning about the BIIF and its history, you'd be a little less cocky and show some respect. You might actually make the effort to quote coaches and players, including Konawaena's. But it's obvious you prefer writing about the NFL and MTV celebrities.

It's also obvious that you have no plans to cover BIIF sports within a few years (or months) from now. Here today, gone tomorrow. Kind of typical.

We are actually comrades, but believe me when I say the grenades are coming your way sooner rather than later, and I ain't gonna be there to bail your ass out. You're going to earn each and every stitch. Figuratively speaking, of course.

Sincerely,
Pupule
