Evolution of football will not be deterred

Even with the doofus mentality in California -- there are traditionalists who want the creative A-11 formation banned -- football has a history of innovation that will not be stopped.

News is out about the possible ban of the A-11 offense.

ESPN mag had a story about the A-11 a couple of months ago. Roosevelt ran its version of the A-11 a few years ago in a 23-6 upset win over Kahuku. Roosevelt called them the Flamingo, Duck, etc. formations. The JV team also used it this season in the playoffs.

All the fear and loathing about the A-11 is ridiculous. It's just coaches who don't want to figure out how to stop it, which is preposterous because it IS stoppable. Piedmont has lost its share of games with this offense. All the scheme does is make the team much more competitive. More players touch the ball. The game becomes truly wide open.

Coaches who don't want to stretch their brains, coaches who have a surplus of bigger, slower players (who can't cover in space) are always going to want a ban on the A-11.

The game will evolve, AS ALWAYS, and it doesn't matter right now what kind of legislation is done to stop the evolution. Football didn't have the forward pass at one time. You either move forward as a program or get stuck in the past ... I suppose there are old-time coaches who wish the Wishbone was still the killer app of the college and prep game.

I miss the Wishbone sometimes, but it didn't need to be BANNED for the game to continue progressing.
