Sparking Yunker *** 1/2

Of all the caffeinated drinks from Asia, I've rarely seen energy drinks. This one is from Japan and the label looks shiny, tacky and vaguely American. But it's Japanese. Better yet, it WORKS.

Yunker? Yup. Funky name, very American looking label, but this is from Japan. One of my recent purchases from Nijiya Market in Puck's Alley.

This is a supplement fact list. Nice of them to do since, uh, well, you'll see. Anyway, note the ingredients.

Coenzyme (huh?), guarana seed (not root), ginseng root and coffee bean extract. I've never seen this combination in a drink before. Those wacky Japanese!

The sideways box notes that this drink is NOT approved by the FDA or something like that. Am I crazy? Not really. Well, maybe just a little. Did you notice that this beverage is "distributed" by Sato Pharmeceuticals? Spooky. I just want a charge for my stationary bike ride.

So I drank half the can, then started working out. I diluted the rest of the drink with water and drank it throughout the 40 minutes. The result? Another personal best, this time burned off 378 calories. YUNKER WORKS.

Does anyone know what these characters mean? "You will drink this, Americans." Or maybe "After drinking Yunker, you will grow hair on nipples." Nah, probably "Please wash hands after using restroom. Thank you." There were no weird side effects, no lingering wired-til-7 a.m. effects. I like this Yunker. The only minus is the 13 grams of sugar, BUT that's still less than half the sugar you'll find in Red Bull (regular) and most other energy drinks. Banzai!
