Good news: This 16.6-ounce bottle of tea gave me a nice boost. Bad news: It came with 48 grams of sugar.

When I bought this bottle, it was about two weeks ago at Nijiya Market, and was one of the few drinks I bought that had sugar. Last night, I brought it with me to the gym and tanked that tea. Very tasty.

Then I looked at the label carefully. Yikes! That's a lot of sugar. It lists this bottle for two servings in all, but stopping halfway through wasn't going to happen, not on a humid night while I'm thirsty.

So I worked out, burned a healthy 361 calories on the stationary bike (40 minutes). Not a personal record, but pretty good considering I hadn't exercised this long for four days.

I wouldn't mind buying Kirin Straight Tea again, but only as a beverage. Otherwise, I'm going to avoid all that sugar and get a boost from something else like sugarless Oolong tea.

Pros: One of the best tasting sweetened iced teas, decent energy boost, no lingering wired aftereffect.
Cons: 48 grams of sugar.
