- Film Review: 'Mystic River' compells with exquisite storytelling
10/20/03
Without an honest pen, the story falls flat at the end more than anything because it had been SO honest for the first 135 minutes. It falls, not on its face, but certainly on its behind. Other than that, I loved this film. It’s a lavish dinner with rusty nails for desert.
- Film Review: Don't Kill Bill yet; Vol. 1 was worth every cent
10/16/03
Beyond the pure action-for-action’s-sake, there is a very pure impulse and instinct at work in Black Mamba. It does beg this question: What if she were driven not to exact violent revenge from her tormentors? What if she were motivated somehow to forgive them? Would that not be far more challenging than to merely lope off their heads?
- Football: Steady offense, hungry defense lead Hawaii over Fresno St., 55-28
10/12/03
Tim Chang passed for 353 yards and Hawaii used a 28-point second quarter to outslug Fresno State, 55-28, Saturday night at Aloha Stadium.
- Film Review: Fiennes shines as 'Luther'
10/09/03
Fiennes captures the fire and brimstone, but more so, he reaches in to present a Luther who is witty, funny and—a rarity in the staid church—passionate for both the Word of God and the love of a good woman.
- Film Review: Splendid, indeed--'American Splendor' an original
10/06/03
This film is not for any specific demographic. In fact, at Varsity Theater, there were Asian women in their 70s, a couple in their 20s, and to my complete and utter shock, single men in their 30s and 40s.
- Film Review: School of Rock delivers a big hit
10/04/03
When Dewey dares the class to view him as ‘The Man’ and spew some punk attitude, the Asian boy tells it like it is: “You are fat and you have body odor.” That three-second byte said it all.
