    Reason is imperative in the world of crusty, middle-aged movie reviewers. They work on deadline, have bills to pay and peer pressure to yield to the masses. Watching a film, or hearing a story the way a child would? It's beneath them, most of them anyway.

    Sirens and sirens and sirens and ... why the heck are they still at top volume right next to my building? Turns out both directions of the H-1 were completely frozen. Not a good sign....

    My recommendation is that if you are not interested in grabbing every college football issue in mid-July, the 7 bucks is more wisely spent on the Athlon mag than The Sporting News.

    The cannibalism of the ILH has never been so apparent. The byproduct of achieving excellence in athletics and academics has some residual toxins because the lust to win has altered policies. It happened in the late '60s and beyond ... and it is clearly occurring once again.

    What grabbed me was his dedication to the game, to these kids, the way he gently pushed them over and over, getting hands-on in his teaching, throwing the ball, working up a sweat and a sunburn all at the same time. Consistent, simple and direct for 3 hours straight.
