- Pupule Pigskin Picks
09/30/06
Playing at home is no automatic win for Waianae, which has lost two games at Torri Field while being unbeaten on the road.
- Draft List: HRC Aloha International League
09/28/06
Balls out offense in the Aloha League, with two QBs, 3 WRs, 2 RBs, TE, PK, W/T, W/R and just eight teams. Just your basic Arena League kind of craziness....
- Wherefore art thou, Rainbow fans?
09/27/06
I mean, how do you actually deny the fact that when crowds were big, 45,000 fans would scream like crazy at Aloha Stadium. Half the stadium would holler "RAIN!" Then the other half would yell "BOWS!" That says it all. Fans loved their "Rainbows."
- Post-game: Imua2000
09/27/06
Danny Cup Choy, Imua2000: "Is Buffalo's defense coming down to Earth?"
- Post-game: Kailua Zebras
09/27/06
Kyle Galdeira, Kailua Zebras: "Not only was I relying on Chris Simms, but now the guy had his spleen removed and I must count on Buffalo's Losman from here on out until Trent Green gets healthy again."
- Fantasy: Week 3 a nightmare for Ala Wai
09/25/06
Subscribing to the He'll be tired after a Monday Night game theory, I benched RB Willie Parker and started RB Deangelo Williams. Carolina went ahead and gave Deshaun Foster a ton of carries and Williams was shown his place in the pecking order. It's a shame because Williams is the better, more productive back. Stupid Panthers.
- Pupule's Top 10 ballot, Sept. 24
09/25/06
The Waveriders have talent and numbers, but remain untested by a league that is Division II — in talent and numbers — from top to bottom. The 'Riders are the only D-I team in the BIIF that actually should be there.
- Pupule Pigskin Picks
09/23/06
Kohala at Hawaii Prep — Those 2 p.m. kickoffs at HPA are one of the best moments in all of Hawaii high school football.
- Under a spell
09/23/06
I've always maintained that if Jamoca Almond Fudge were a woman, she would be Halle Berry. Sweet, rich, smooth and a little bit nutty. I mean, crunchy. Whatever ...
- Pre-game: SportsHawaii.com vs. Ala Wai ToxiCudas
09/20/06
"Our best-case scenario," Fooldemeister said, "is for Eli to throw only five times while (Tiki) Barber and (Brandon) Jacobs run for three touchdowns each. Yeah. That would be cool."
- Post-game: Kailua Zebras
09/19/06
"I think I have the worst team on paper, but with a 1-1 record, it proves that Fantasy Football in anything but an exact science."
- Post-game Q & A: Nuckin Futz
09/19/06
"I played a team that had Ryan Longwell for a kicker and he got twenty something points for him. That is insane. But thats the way the game goes."
- Post-game Q & A: Imua2000
09/19/06
My Lions stink again as usual, and I have two of their scrubs on my team. I thought McNair would do much better vs. a bad Raiders team. And for the 2nd week in a row I've played TJ Houshmanzadah and he sat out as a gametime decision.
- Reunited
09/19/06
I didn't have to accept lunch tokens at Washington Intermediate any more, which was a big deal to me. I always felt small when I picked up those tokens and used them for lunch. Hated it. Having the change to buy my own lunch was gratifying.
- Draft List: HRC Katoosh League
09/16/06
Team-by-team results of the draft, Friday, Sept. 15, 2006, 12:30 p.m....
- Pupule Pigskin Picks
09/16/06
Afternoon football on the slopes of the pristine Kohala Mountains. Pine trees and the "world's best hamburgers" make football at HPA always worth the drive. Ka Makani gave Honokaa a tough game last week. Hilo's sophomore quarterback has already won on the road (at Kohala two weeks ago). Another close one. Hilo 17, Hawaii Prep 16.
- Post-Draft: Ala Wai Foodlemeisters
09/15/06
The draft is 80 percent of your success, so the key is to just avoid busts and stupid errors. Like picking the guy with the right last name on your last, but the wrong first name.
- Post-game Q & A: Parkpill
09/14/06
Big surprise was Kellen Winslow. Although I counted on him to step up, you just never know after coming back from two straight injured plagued seasons.
- Post-game Q & A: Hawaii's Poi Pounder
09/13/06
Rain or shine, the big PP is looking forward to Week 2....
- Post-game Q & A: Kailua Zebras
09/13/06
X factor: Clinton Portis, while I left him on my bench, he put up a good point total (12) considering he wasn't supposed to play.
- Post-game Q & A: Ewa Cane Knives
09/13/06
X factor: I was bummed by the poor performance of Shaun Alexander!
- Post-game Q & A: Bay Area Berzerkers (CORRECTED)
09/13/06
Week 1 was not good to the Bay Area Berzerkers, who were among the first franchises to start releasing Oakland Raider players.
- Forgiveness
09/13/06
A friend once asked me, "How can you be a writer when you never read books. That's impossible." She's right. It's impossible, except that most books bore me.
- HRC Katoosh League: settings adjusted
09/12/06
Katoosh League settings revised. Six teams have signed up, but I'd like to have 8 or 10 teams by Thursday night. Draft is Friday morning....
- Fantasy profile: Dayne Teves, D-Tech Hawaii
09/12/06
Where should the HRC Ohana Fantasy Football League hold its post-season "banquet"? I am open to any kind of food except Chinese seafood (bad experience).
- Pupule's Top 10 ballot, Sunday, Sept. 10
09/11/06
The Mules have responded well since the shutout loss to Saint Louis, and the offense is beginning to find its rhythm. Bryant Moniz is getting much more comfortable with his array of receivers, but it is the defense that has been resilient despite a lack of depth.
- Pupule Pigskin Picks
09/11/06
@ Konawaena 36, Waiakea 14 — Long gone are the days of the Warrior dynasty. Best roast pork plate in the islands? Julian Yates Field.
- Fanastical voyages, indeed
09/11/06
If your husband or boyfriend seemed weird enough in his fascination and obsession about fantasy sports, you might not approve the fact that someone like me has condoned his childish hobby by creating pictures to manifest his team "ownership."
- Post-draft: Parkpill
09/09/06
Can't get the IMPACT players picking outside the top 3-4 picks but I did the best I could. My grade.......B.
- Post-draft: SportsHawaii.com
09/09/06
Is there anybody on your roster you regret selecting?> Benjamin Watson, I pressed "I'm Away" instead of draft and the auto picker chose him for me.
- Fantasy profile: Scott Komatsu, SportsHawaii.com
09/09/06
Starts/Benches players based on opponent's defense, scoring potential (looks at Vegas line over/under), Home vs. Away and my secret weapon...
- HRC Katoosh League includes defensive players
09/09/06
Now that I know how to include defensive players, this new league is going to ROCK. After all, defense is half the game . . ....
- Pupule Pigskin Picks
09/09/06
@ Konawaena 36, Waiakea 14 — Long gone are the days of the Warrior dynasty. Best roast pork plate in the islands? Julian Yates Field.
- Draft List: HRC Pupule League
09/08/06
With the first pick in the first round of the Pupule Fantasy League draft, the Ewa Cane Knives select Shaun Alexander, running back, Seattle.
- Post-Draft: Bay Area Berzerkers
09/06/06
I was going to autodraft but since I was at home, I figured I'd try the live draft. My first live draft and I wouldn't have done as well if I had done the autodraft.
- Draft List: HRC HAPPY League
09/06/06
The team-by-team draft results, Sunday, Sept. 3, 2006....
- Draft List: HRC Ohana League
09/06/06
Team-by-team results of the draft, Monday, Sept. 4, 2006....
- Post-Draft: Beer King
09/05/06
Watch out for the Beer King. I have already talked to my players and they all like Belgium Beer and the Hawaii sunshine, which is their reward for bringing home the league championship.
- Post-Draft: Fence Sitters
09/05/06
If Warner stays healthy and continues his Geritol treatments the Foodlemeisters will probably be the team to beat.
- Post-Draft: Kyle Galdeira, Kailua Zebras
09/05/06
Good luck, and if anybody wants to place side bets or any friendly wagers, let me know!
- Post-Draft: Kim Chee Soup
09/05/06
My goal was to draft the same players on all my teams. I hate the feeling of cheering for a player and then realizing i'm playing against him in another league.
- Post-Draft: Imua2000
09/05/06
In no particular order, I think the four best teams are HK, Sabers, Bay Area, and myself. Bay Area has a good team because he has a strong bench.
- Fantasy profile: Kim Chee Soup
09/05/06
I think 12 teams should be the max, unless you go 24 and have two divisions. Ten teams is not enough.
- Fantasy profile: Warriors
09/05/06
If I cannot have Radford Park or Caleb Spencer. I guess I will have to settle for Larry Johnson or Marvin Harrison.
- Fantasy profile: Dave Dods, Crusader Power
09/05/06
As for the cutest cheerleaders, I'll have to do more research on that topic :) I'm bummed the Bears don't have cheerleaders.
- Fantasy profile: Fence Sitters
09/05/06
When I was growing up on Maui they came and did a football camp, Roman Gabriel, Jack Snow, Merlin Olsen, and a whole bunch of others. From that day on I liked the Rams even though they haven’t been that good.
- Fantasy profile: Bay Area Berzerkers
09/04/06
Bay Area Berzerkers = Bay Area is where I live now, Berzerkers sounds good with Bay Area and used to be the name of a youth soccer team in my soccer league when I was younger.
- Fantasy profile: Danny Cup Choy, Imua2000
09/04/06
I won last year's opening season... I've won quite a few others... I think I'm the team to beat.
- Fantasy profile: Kalani Takase, M-TOWN SAINTS
09/04/06
Resume time: What is your history of success (or lack of) in fantasy football? What other leagues have you been in? Played for the past 5 years or so. Have won 2 leagues I've been in.
- Fantasy profile: Logan Narikawa, Name TBD
09/04/06
Who is your favorite NFL team, and what will you do to see them play in person? Fantasy Football has severed all my former allegiances. My favorite NFL team is my fantasy team.
- Pupule's Top 10 ballot, Sunday, Sept. 3
09/04/06
1. Punahou 3-0-0 (0-0-0 ILH). You may have doubted the rebuilt Buffanblu defense, and you might even have had a case in pointing out the nature of their win over defending state champ Kahuku ... and the relatively small margin of victory at Waianae. Beating a good Eastlake (Wash.) team in Seattle 23-16 cannot be argued.
- You play the game to win
09/04/06
Wins matter, and nearly as important, quality of play. An even game with Kamehameha has substance. A walloping of a tiny school? It's a quick way to lose respect.
- Do we need the 69-point routs?
09/04/06
Pollard was a wiry, highly optimistic man in his 30s, a dude whose love for the game and community were infectious. Here was a haole guy with a definite Midwestern accent, not an ounce of Hawaiian blood in his veins. Yet, he struck a chord with the community, the kids, the parents.
- HAPPY draft is pau
09/04/06
Feedback on the draft coming in the next story.
- Shock City? Maybe
09/03/06
The current format is a single round-robin through the entire league, plus a second run through your own division. Reality is that Ka‘u should play other small schools and ONLY small schools. The Trojans aren't a "tweener" program like Hawaii Prep or Honokaa.
- Pupule Pigskin Picks
09/02/06
@ No. 4 Kamehameha 26, No. 6 Farrington 20 — Probably the best matchup between the two schools in a decade. Warrior fans have to be pleased with the playcalling, which is far less predictable since Kanani Souza returned from Corvallis.
- Fantasy profile: Parkpill
09/01/06
He intends to bring his game, Parkpill does, even if it means pain for the rest of us....
- HAPPY League opens with 3 teams
09/01/06
After little more than a day, HondaReport.com's second league includes Kanaks-R-Us, Buff Strength and Ala Wai U-Drive Boat. Commissioner Paul Honda hopes to have six teams, with a maximum of 10.
