- Pupule's Top 10 ballot, Jan. 28
01/29/07
Kahuku and Waianae are improving considerably.
- Waianae-Mililani hoops, Duke's 'steal'
01/28/07
I just hope it's not the case of Duke's slippage in the polls (can't be the best every single year) causing Blue Devil faithful to engage in preposterous rationale. Not now, and not for the rest of this season.
- About my lists
01/26/07
I think they know, though, that regardless of where I'm employed, I'm the self-admitted No. 1 high school sports geek in the state. I'm not proud of it, not ashamed either.
- Is it enough?
01/24/07
Don't you feel that way at times? Is there something or someone or some place that you feel compelled to help immensely? What would that be?
- Pupule's Top 10 ballot, Jan. 21
01/23/07
Ikaika Kahoopii (30 points against Hilo) is the best-kept secret in the state.
- Wisdom of Colt: Money can't buy love
01/19/07
It was here, in the islands, where he found a sense of belonging. It is impossible to put into words what he tried to say at that press conference in Stan Sheriff Center. He didn't need to say much.
- E-mailbox: From a fan of Solomona Aigamaua
01/18/07
Reliable, responsible and full of promise just as his Mom would've wanted.
- Why, oh why, be a Beaver?
01/17/07
Most kids don't want or need the fear factor, but they still want something that marks their evolution into manhood. For a lot of kids, cutting ties with family and home — not mentally or spiritually, but physically — is a must.
- Defensive fortress
01/15/07
How do you convince an entire team to work that hard for 32 minutes? Different coaches have different methods, but the ones that work for Delbert Tengan and assistant coach Duke Aiona have not failed, not for years and years.
- Same as it ever was
01/14/07
Pre-teen kids today don't know, often times, when to shut up. Yeah, that's right. They come from homes that tolerate the backtalk, the whining, the bickering.
- Review: Children of Men
01/10/07
This film works on the periphery of our consciousness. Incredible sound effects. Fear. Terror. Ultimately, hope.
- About the Top 10 ...
01/10/07
The talent is there, and the Trojans will have their best team in recent memory as they continue to gel. On my ballot, though, they are nowhere near the Top 10, not with Kamehameha, Keaau and Maryknoll out there. And I am not convinced that Mililani, which trailed Thompson by 15 before rallying for a close win, is better than all Division II teams. I think University (10-1) is better. So is Kaiser (9-2).
- Stats nice
01/08/07
Guards are plentiful, and most schools can find at least one big body to play center. A 6-foot-4 guy who can jump, hit layups, block shots, play with energy ... that's a rarity.
- Reflecting on Wade Ishibashi & Keaau Cougars
01/05/07
He's taken it one step, two steps, a million steps further than most of us by mentoring these players in the off-season, showing — not just talking — love and sacrifice.
- Analysis: All-State QBs
01/05/07
Here's how I looked at it after crunching the numbers, weighing every detail I could think of.
- Resolutions and retro jerseys
01/02/07
Thing is, I hardly wear it because Iverson's name is on it. I voluntarily bought that jersey on eBay, but the notion of wearing the jersey of a guy who hates practice and whines about it just annoys me.
