  • Pupule's Top 10 ballot (Oct 28)
    10/28/07
Here's how I will vote today in the Star-Bulletin Top 10....

  • Pupule Pigskin Picks, Week 11, Oct. 26-27
    10/26/07
Kamehameha-Hawaii (6-3, 6-1) at Keaau (5-3, 5-2) — Keaau town has never had a game between its schools mean so much. The Warriors could clinch the top seed in the D-II playoffs, while the Cougars are coming off a big upset win over Kealakehe. Pupule says: Cougars 33, Warriors 31.

"We worked together better as a team. We weren't happy about last week's game," Tipoti said, referring to a televised loss to Kamehameha. "Our offense moved the ball and that gave us more of a break to recoup."

  • Saint Louis-Damien full story
    10/21/07
"Coach said don't take anybody lightly," Mamiya said. "Their defense never gave up."

  • Pupule's Top 10 ballot (Oct 21)
    10/21/07
The skinny: The Crusaders are healthy and still improving. Micah Mamiya's option skills were on display yesterday, and they were very good.

  • Pupule Pigskin Picks, Week 10, Oct. 19-20
    10/19/07
No. 7 Lahainaluna (6-0, 4-0) vs. No. 5 Baldwin (5-1, 4-0), War Memorial Stadium — Two huge factors: 1. All-State WR Chase Nakamura will likely return to the lineup for Baldwin. Remember him? His speed and skills stretched the field as Baldwin scored 22 on last year's Kahuku team in the state semifinals. 2. Lunas stud Lake Casco (RB/FS) is hurting with a sore ankle. Pupule says: Bears 17, Lunas 14.

  • Pupule's Top 10 ballot (Oct 14)
    10/14/07
The skinny: A low-scoring, efficient win is as fun as a high-scoring battle for the Crusaders. Still the most balanced team in the state.

  • Pupule Pigskin Picks, Week 9, Oct. 12-13
    10/12/07
No. 2 Punahou (4-1, 2-1) vs. No. 1 Saint Louis (6-0, 3-0) -- Buffanblu will have some tweaks and wrinkles especially for this rematch, I think. Can the Crusaders persist in the midst of a brutal schedule? Pupule says: Crusaders rally, 28-26.

  • Pupule's Top 10 ballot (Oct 7)
    10/07/07
The skinny: Great battle between Micah Mamiya and the closest thing to a clone in the state (Iolani's Kela Marciel). O-line continues to rule the trenches; Keani Nishigaya ran for 129 yards on only eight carries.

  • Pupule Pigskin Picks, Week 8, Oct. 5-6
    10/05/07
Iolani (4-2, 3-0) vs. No. 1 Saint Louis (5-0, 2-0) — Every few years, Iolani pulls off a miraculous upset. Three seasons ago, Kiran Kepo‘o led the Raiders over Saint Louis 36-31. The Crusaders may be weary from a rugged schedule, but they won't be napping. Pupule says: Crusaders wear down Raiders, 31-17.

  • Torres eases up, but stands his ground
    10/04/07
On the whole, Torres said, he serves the student-athletes first and foremost. "If the kids don't want me, I won't coach. I'm coaching for them. If they sit down and we talk, they'll get their way," he said. "They want me to be more happy, but it's hard to be happy when all this outside stuff is coming down on my shoulders."
