  • Sickness getting to my head
    07/23/08
I'm not even a Mariah Carey fan. Never bought a single song, though "Hero" and "One Sweet Day" with Boyz II Men are classics.

  • Dependence on the big boxes
    07/23/08
Can Hawaii ever be 100 percent self-sufficient?

  • Missing: food essentials
    07/16/08
In fact, I could go for kim chi soup or kim chi and hot rice right now. Maybe some kim chi pancake on the side.

  • Bourdain's hits keep coming
    07/16/08
I know Bourdain's show (see it on the Travel Channel) follows a formula of sorts, but I'll probably never get bored with his insistence on sitting down to eat at street-side joints.

  • NCAA Football 09 on Wii is out
    07/16/08
Now that my nephew is 12 and beating my ass on a regular basis in Madden 08, I'm actually excited. He has a Wii console, so I plan on getting him the recently released NCAA Football 09 for Wii.

  • Cheers to brews on tap special

  • No Reservations: Laos
    07/15/08
Laos is the star in the newest episode of Anthony Bourdain's No Reservations (Bravo Channel). If you have any interest in the country and culture, check it out when it repeats later this week.

  • Underrated: Asian Cole Slaw
    07/08/08
But ever since I tried the Asian cole slaw a couple of years ago, I've pretty much ordered it on the side with my chili plate.

  • Breach: overrated?
    07/08/08
However, it was no classic, and the simple, underwhelming ending -- while true to the real-life story -- lacked the extra twist I was yearning for.

  • 'Mongol' and high horses
    07/08/08
I give Mongol 3 stars (out of 4). JJ? He gives it only 1 star.

  • Megumi Yakota Story
    07/01/08
Between North Korea, Japan, South Korea and all of us who have roots in those faraway places, this story really hits home. Yes, it made me angry and yes, it made me cry.
